Rafts in Mosul through ForeignTravelers' writings
الملخص
This research is an humbled attempt to follow up and analyze the foreign travelers' impressions how visited Mosul during the Ottoman reign (1516-1918) about the rafts.In fact foreign travelers toke record of their travels' route from their home to Mosul and vice versa or from Mosul to Baghdad or to south of Iraq.Foreign travelers' writings included valuable information about the construction of rafts , their raw materials and routes from Diyarbekr to Baghdad via Mosul. Also, they contained much information the role of the rafts in Mosul prosperity because the rafts were the best means of transportation at that time , so they connected Mosul with Anatolia in the north , Kurdistan in the northeastward and Baghdad in the south.
